Project Description
In an era of increasingly erratic weather patterns, dwindling water supplies, and soil degradation, European farmers and vocational educators find themselves on the front line of a climate crisis they were never trained to face: outdated curricula, fragmented knowledge-sharing, and a widening gap between scientific innovation and everyday practice leave fields vulnerable and yields unpredictable. The FarmForward project tries to tackle these intertwined challenges head-on by pinpointing where training falls short, equipping trainers with hands-on, climate-resilient methods, and bridging the divide between policy and practice, so that Europe’s food producers can weather tomorrow’s storms with confidence.
Thus, the FarmForward project addresses the urgent need for resilient and sustainable agriculture in the face of climate change by uniting farmers, trainers and policymakers across Europe. This collaborative initiative kicks off with a rigorous mapping of the real-world challenges that both seasoned farmers and vocational educators face when adapting to extreme weather and shifting seasons. By combining quantitative surveys with qualitative focus groups, we ensure that every recommendation is grounded in the lived experiences of those on the front lines of food production
Building on this evidence base, the project’s core objectives are laser-focused: first, to illuminate training gaps through a comprehensive Needs Analysis Report; second, to empower trainers via a hands-on Climate-Resilient Farming Handbook; third, to inspire farmers with practical, field-tested resources and workshops; and finally, to translate expert insights into actionable policy guidelines. Each step is designed to reinforce the others, creating a seamless pathway from insight to implementation
By equipping educators and farmers with both the knowledge and the practical tools to implement climate-smart practices, the FarmForward project aims to catalyze a ripple effect of innovation throughout the agri-food sector. The project’s legacy will be a strengthened community of practice, ready to share lessons learned and advocate for policies that support sustainable, resilient farming across Europe and beyond!
